Market Analysis of Piggery and Pork Production Business Plan in Nigeria

Pork is the most popular meat consumed in the world today and about 44% of world meat protein consumption is derived from pork and pork products

The current Nigeria pork market is really good, and the forecast since the border closure has greatly increased even though we were the biggest producers before.

Nigeria been a highly populated country cannot produce the current pork demand of more than 1 million tonnes annually, and many neighboring countries like Togo, Benin Republic depend on our pork meat.

It takes about N32,500 to raise one pig, (we have a good feeding formula, organic and well sustainable which helps us to cut cost and maximize profit) and we make a minimum of N15,000 on each pig every 6 months.

We currently have about 175pigs because we’ve had to sell a lot of piglets and in 2019 decide to keep a lot to start our pork processing arm. We have identified more than 500tonnes per week in pork demand just within Delta state alone, and we have had to turn down many demands from outside this region as we can’t even meet up a 5tonnes pork demand in one quarter.

Our target markets are sausage companies, meat processing factories, caterers, snacks shops, soap industries and leather factories.

Profit Analysis of Piggery and Pork Production Business Plan in Nigeria

As expected feeding takes most of the spending which could be three over four of the cost of raising one pig. As a wise business man should pig farming is profitable by comparing the pork price (pig meat) and cost of production. The pig is expected to achieve a 50kg of weight

Total cost of production per pig = total cost of feed + other operational costs =

Where cost of feeding for 6months 31,000 + 4500 = N35, 500

Resultant pork = at least 80% of 50kg = 35kg would be realized per pig

Cost price per kg of pork = 35500÷ 35 = N1014.29

Selling price of pork per kg = N1,500

Profit per kg of pork = selling price of pork per kg – cost price per kg of pork = 1500 – 1014.29 = N485.71

Net profit per pork is then approx N17, 000 if they attain
